The Adventure Begins: Connecticut to Michigan
Greetings from Route 66! Though we started this journey on Monday (and today is Wednesday) we haven't had proper internet access until now. I've been writing a bit journal style and taking a ton of photos so what I think I'll do is write a couple separate blog entries tonight and then try to do more tomorrow.
We started our journey barreling across what I consider to be the boring states, Pennsylvania being foremost in those. It isn't that these states aren't beautiful or special in their own ways, but I've been there and seen them. I'm ready to see new things. Our first stop was Michigan where we camped just outside of Ann Arbor.
Upon arriving at the campground we were immediately attacked by swarms of mosquitos ready to feast on our blood. We battled them off and set up our tent, then went off in search of a tarp (which is the one thing we seem to have forgotten on this trip). When we returned we finished setting up camp and crashed for the night. By this point the skeeters were mostly gone, but the bullfrogs were out in full force. Falling asleep that night was like trying to fall asleep at a rock concert by and for frogs. But sleep we did, and pretty well too.
In the morning we were off to explore Ann Arbor, which was still mostly asleep as it was only 9 in the morning. We drank delicious slushies (raspberry lemonade for me, Arnold Palmer for Matt) and wandered around looking in store windows. Around 10 we popped into a comic book store to browse and get our nerd-ness on. They had a really good selection, but what called to us was the Buy One Get One sale on Kid Robot Munny's. We each got one and are attempting to decorate them and use them as mascots on this trip. There are slight dilemmas with this, but hopefully I'll be able to start photographing them in random places soon.
By the way, this is what our trunk looks like (a mini cooper back seat with the seats down:
It isn't as messy as it looks. Promise. :)
